Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening can be performed at our Smithtown, Long Island practice using a soft tissue laser. This procedure can be performed as a means for eliminating decay, or to improve the appearance of the smile.

DR. JIMMY KILIMITZOGLOU: Crown lengthening is a procedure that lengthens the tooth. Essentially when we have decay and it’s very, very close to the bone, what we have to do is we have to kind of lower the bone a little bit so we can access to good, healthy tooth structure. Sometimes we do crown lengthening for esthetic purposes. When a patient has a very gummy smile, we might have to do a gum lift and it’s a gentle procedure where we modify the levels of the gum so we can improve the smile of the patient.
