Description
In situations where patients experience extensive tooth decay, root canal therapy may be necessary in order to prevent the need for extraction. While endodontic treatment gets a bad reputation, Dr. Kilimitzoglou is able to perform the procedure with virtually no pain.

DR. JIMMY KILIMITZOGLOU: When patients have deep decay and it goes into the nerve, we might have to do a root canal procedure. Other times that we have to do a root canal procedure might be when patients have irreversible pain, throbbing, or any kind of discomfort that’s not alleviated by any other treatment.
Essentially a root canal is a surprisingly comfortable procedure. Patients get numb. We isolate the tooth so that it’s a clean environment and it’s almost like a deeper filling. We go in there and we disinfect the area, we take out the nerve, and we fill it with inert filling.
