What does that MAGD at the end of your name stand for?

The MAGD stands for Master of the Academy of General Dentistry.

What is the Academy of General Dentistry?

The AGD is the professional association for general dentists. It is the only organization exclusively dedicated to representing the interests and serving the needs of general dentists like me.

Why is a Mastership important?

The AGD was founded by a group of general dentists who believed strongly in continuing education. This award speaks to the organization’s value of excellence in dentistry through continuing education—dentists who have earned their MAGD offer their patients cutting-edge care. After I completed my Fellowship, I completed an additional 600 hours of continuing education. It was far from easy, but it’s worth it to make sure my patients are getting the best possible care I can give.

What is Fellowship?

Fellowship is an award offered to members of the Academy of General Dentistry that requires 500 hours of education after dental school in various disciplines and passing a rigorous examination. The award offers a general dentist like me the education to stay on the cutting edge and offer our patients the best care available.

How long does it take?

It varies based on personal availability to take the special courses and exam. For me, it took 6 years to achieve Fellowship.

How many dentists have a Mastership in the AGD?

Less than 1 percent of all general dentists have achieved Mastership.

How does your AGD membership benefit me and my family?

I care about your long-term dental health, and I demonstrate that concern by belonging to the AGD. AGD members are dedicated to continuing education to help them stay up-to-date on the latest procedures and provide quality treatment. The AGD believes that the general dentist who remains current in general dentistry is better able to offer you and your family a variety of diagnosis and treatment choices.
