What's fascinating about dentistry is that it is a profession that has no limits and that keeps improving and evolving. It's like the new frontier. In essence, we are all pioneers as we embark on our quest to healthy and beautiful smiles.
My love for Stony Brook Dental School and my passion for dentistry have inspired me to create the Dimitrios Kilimitzoglou Pioneer in Dentistry Award which has quickly become a new Stony Brook tradition as I hope to share my enthusiasm for the school and the profession with the dental students or future colleagues.
The Award is presented to the fourth year student who demonstrated extraordinary passion, pride, zeal and inspiration for dentistry. It is open to any 4th year student regardless of what specialty program or residency they will be attending after graduation.
Candidates must have done one of, but not limited to the following: performing an advanced difficult or unusual case, proficiency and multiple procedures in any one area of dentistry, research, outreach, or any other accomplishment demonstrating that one has gone above and beyond the required duties and requirements of dental school. Candidates have to apply for the award and a committee selects the best candidate.
The Award consists of a plaque, a beautiful glass trophy and a stipend of $1000. This year it is co sponsored by Sullivan Schein Dental .
